Why Family Constellation?

We can free the way we are in the present generic-group1web
through acknowledging the systems,
past and present, that shape us.

The events in our family history influence us because we learn our position in the world relative to the group, starting with the first group we encounter, our family of origin. Yet our family is not only our siblings and parents, our family of origin consists of our parents, any previous or subsequent marriages they had, all of our siblings including half-siblings and step-siblings, the siblings of our parents, our grandparents, and even the siblings of grandparents.

Any member of an extended family that is forgotten or estranged will still exert an influence on the system. That which we push away the strongest remains closest to us. Anytime we exclude any behavior, any person, race, creed, event or culture, we go into resistance and our life does not flow freely, for our creative energies are tied up in resistance instead of being focused on creating that which we desire.

We are most healthy and resilient when we are in full acceptance of the life we have, of our parents and generations further back. A person in tune with the past has a future. A person that is angry with, or in denial of, the past is bonded to the past and has no future. Family Constellation work looks for those unhealthy bonds, and solves them, to allow the capacity for the future.

We cannot solve the problems of the past. We can simply and powerfully acknowledge what is and find a healthy attitude to it. This brings peace. Through a felt experience of the dynamics that shape our groups we are able to gain contextual insight into our attitudes, beliefs, tendencies and even our health. This can be very helpful in transforming long-standing attitudes, symptoms or challenges that have persisted regardless of repeated attempts at change. Constellations can also give a broader understanding of how trans-generational issues can sometimes manifest as physical symptoms, emotional or psychological symptoms and relationship challenges in the present day. One can even gain insight into why certain illnesses, diseases or accidents or other fates repeat themselves within a family.

Family/Sytemic Constellations offer a unique experiential tool for gaining insight into the dynamics that shape families, communities, and any social groups and systems. Particularly, constellations shed light on how dynamics of a system influence the individual. With insight into the ancestral and current systemic context of our life we are able to shift stuck patterns and stuck relationships in our lives.
